For some persons, hair growing freely on any part of the body is both natural and beautiful. Many persons though, perhaps the majority, would prefer certain areas of their body to be hairless. Unwanted body hair for some is a major cause of embarrassment. Others have to maintain a hairless appearance due to the nature of their work or leisure activities.
Thus arises the problem - a permanent hair removal method for unwanted embarrassing body hair which is economical, permanent, painless and safe.
Alas, permanent hair removal products are not always what they seem. In short there is no method currently available which measures up to the criteria listed above.
However, by a process of comparison, you will be able to decide which hair removal method suits you and satisfies as many of those requirements as possible, depending on your order of priorities.
Permanent solutions What do we mean by permanent? In the context of hair removal, "permanent" can be a period of years. In other cases, a few months is described as permanent.
So if you are seeking a permanent hair removal solution that will last for many years then you narrow down your choice to electrolysis or thermolase.
However, many are unaware of a more economical method which is also permanent and at the same time painless.
It involves using a regular method of hair removal such as waxing or sugaring or even shaving in conjunction with a hair inhibitor which is rubbed directly into the skin.
With electrolysis, very fine needles are inserted into the hair follicle and an electric current is used to disable the hair growth. Each hair has to be treated individually. Repeated visits are often necessary and the cost can run into hundreds and thousands of dollars. Much discomfort or pain can be associated with the process, depending on the individual. It is best carried out by a professional as there are dangers of skin damage if not done properly.
Thermolase uses a laser to disable the hair follicle. Beams of light can treat a number of hairs at the same time. There are claims that the discomfort is less than electrolysis. It can be more expensive than electrolysis and repeated visits are often necessary. One point worthy of note, the risk of skin injury is higher on persons with darker skin. Surrounding tissue can be burned and a wider skin area affected. With proper professional consultations however, the risks can be discussed and minimized.
Topical solutions have appeared on the market in recent years made from plant enzymes. They change the nature of the hair follicle so it becomes soft like baby hair. They need to be applied after using waxing or one of the other methods for a few weeks until the hair disappears.
They
are thus quite economical in view of the fewer times the treatment has to be applied
until finally the permanent solution is reached.
Less permanent hair removal solutions
What conclusions did you reach?
From the foregoing it becomes evident that there is no ideal solution to the problem of unwanted body hair. Depending on your need you may decide to go for the "permanent" solutions and pay the large expense involved and take any pain or discomfort than comes with it.
Probably for the majority, one of the less permanent hair removal solutions is more desirable. It all depends whether quickness, convenience, or cost are your main considerations.
Is it all vanity? Some may think so. However, our self-esteem and sense of well-being are often affected by how we look and feel about ourselves. Embarrassing body hair has an impact on that.
Many are prepared to pay the price in time, energy, discomfort and money so as to feel confident as they handle their careers and social lives!
Where do you go from here?
Out of all the methods discussed above, topical solutions seem to score well when it comes to economy, convenience, minimal discomfort and level of permanence.
